Russia Sanctions Package May Leave Out Trump Request to Ease Penalties

A sanctions package against Russia could be unveiled Friday night, but it is expected to not include changes President Donald Trump was pushing for that would have made it easier for him to ease the penalties against America’s Cold War foe.

Politico cites congressional sources who said the package, which punishes Russia for its meddling in last year’s U.S. presidential election, is missing a key inclusion the White House requested. The White House has floated the idea of lessening the sanctions on Russia in order to improve relations between the two countries.

The sanctions package could get through the House and Senate sometime next week, Politico reports.

One reported change to the bill would make it easier for U.S. companies to conduct business with Russian companies.
