NYC Elementary School Cancels Father-Daughter Dance: ‘Could Be Uncomfortable and a Triggering Event’

Parents at a Staten Island Elementary School are furious at Principal Sophie  for canceling the traditional Father-Daughter dance  in order to “eliminate” any “gender-based” practices.

Scamardella was responding to new gender guidelines for public school from the New York Department of Education.

Principal Scamardella instructed the PTA to change the event “to ensure all students and families were welcome to attend,” DOE spokeswoman Miranda Barbot said.

The department had told schools to “eliminate” any “gender-based” activities unless they serve a “clear” educational purpose, the paper said, citing the agency’s Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Student Guidelines policy update issued last March.

“Until we understand what we are legally permitted to do, we need to table this event,” Parent Teacher Association President Toni Bennett wrote in a private school-parents Facebook group about the PS 65 dance scheduled on Friday, the NY Post reported.

PS 65 had the event scheduled for Friday, February 9,
