Losing a son left a legacy to campaign for better mental health support, says ex-Sky reporter

Campaigners are calling for more support for mental health services, particularly following the extension of lockdown restrictions in England.

As men’s health week continues, which aims to raise awareness of the issues affecting men, how to combat a surging suicide rate for men in England and Wales is high on the agenda.

Former Sky correspondent Mike McCarthy lost his son Ross in February 2021 and says he was given a letter explaining his son’s decision to take his own life and how more support for those who are struggling with mental health issues or in a crisis is needed.
