Kneeling in the Seats Protest Cancelled at UI Football Game – Cops Couldn’t Promise Safety

In a fit of reality, the Our Voice Matters student group cancelled their planned protest at this weekends Iowa Hawkeye Homecoming Football game in Iowa City. The group had planned to kneel IN the student section at the football game in Kinnick Stadium this coming Saturday.

They encouraged students to kneel during the anthem or raise their fist in protest to police brutality.

Alexandria Yakes is a junior at the University of Iowa. She wants to raise awareness on police brutality against African Americans.

She says, “It may not be a huge issue in Iowa City, but that doesn’t mean that we can sit here and pretend like it’s not happening everywhere else.”

That’s why she’s organizing a protest during Saturday’s homecoming game. She’s asking the student section, and anyone else who feels like joining to kneel, or raise their fist during the National Anthem.
