Autodesk CEO Andrew Anagnost joined Forbes to discuss the company’s AI strategy for its popular software tools, which help people design and build things with computer modeling. Anagnost talks about how today’s text-based AI won’t help solve spatial problems, like designing a skyscraper faster, and gives advice for young people interested in going into fields related to design, construction and manufacturing to keep an edge over fast-moving AI. After this video was filmed on January 20th, Autodesk laid off 7% of its workforce, about 1,000 roles largely in its customer-facing sales teams, as it shifts investment to cloud and AI efforts. The company this week announced a $200 million investment in Forbes AI 50 company World Labs, which Anagnost references in this conversation as one of the leaders in using AI to model physical spaces. It is Autodesk’s largest startup investment to date.
