Former student recalls 9/11 classroom moment, life of service

Former President George W. Bush visited Carlton Shelley II’s fifth grade class at Emma E. Booker Elementary School on Sept. 11, 2001. Shelley then served as his high school’s class president, captain of the football team, U.S. Military Academy cadet and a member of the 9th Cavalry Regiment.

“These were my acts of service throughout this time period… when I think about what I want the future generation to hold on to, it’s hope and service,” Shelley said. Courtesy of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
