Better Late Than Never: Senate Overturns Obama

In a historic vote Wednesday afternoon, the Senate passed a bill that had been previously vetoed by President Obama with an amazing 97 to 1 count. The bill is aimed at helping the families of 9/11 and has a provision allowing these families to sue the government of Saudi Arabia for their involvement in the tragedy. Obama had threatened that he would veto the bill if it came across his desk.

The only hold out was Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. The two missing votes were Hillary’s VP pick Tim Kaine and her runner-up Bernie Sanders.

The bill now goes to the House for their overriding vote. If they are also successful, then the bill will pass into law and mark the first time that Obama has been overruled in his presidency.
