The Sydney man praised by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as an “Australian hero” after taking a gun from one of the alleged attackers during the mass shooting at Bondi Beach has received a check for roughly $1.65 million after thousands of people contributed to a donation website.
Video posted to TikTok shows Ahmed al-Ahmed presented with an oversized check at his hospital bed by Zachery Dereniowski, a social media influencer and co-organizer of the fundraising campaign.
