The Department of Housing and Urban Development will return to the bidding process for Section 8 housing, instead of the grant process used in the Obama administration.
“When dealing with performance-based Section 8 contract administrators, it’s clear that full and open competition is the way to get the best value for the taxpayer,” Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla, told the Washington Examiner. “As chairman of the Housing Appropriations Subcommittee, I have repeatedly insisted both publicly and privately that HUD follow Congressional intent, the GAO, and the Supreme Court.”
Section 8 housing is a program that provides rental assistance to landlords on behalf of low-income people in affordable housing. In 1995, the department implemented a bidding process for the management of these units, until 2012 when HUD moved to a grant-like structure.
