In our last two posts on rights, I set out to discover two things. First, I wanted to know what it means to have rights. I gave “rights” a definition to help understand what I was talking about. I wrote
Rights then are the things that we should be able to do or enjoy simply because we were born. Nothing that has to be earned but the freedom to earn. Nothing that has to be learned, but the freedom to learn. This does not include certain things.
Then I discussed from where these rights have come. I said that all men and women have these rights as a consequence of being born. These rights were given to us by God the Creator, before and after the fall. God also reiterated these rights through the redemption in the New Testament. I wrote
