Ilir Sela, who comes from a family of Albanian pizza owners on Staten Island, set up Slice – an online ordering app that’s essentially GrubHub for pizzerias – to help independent pizzerias compete with Big Pizza in the $45 billion market. By ordering via Slice, mom-and-pop pizza shops retain a larger portion of the profits than with other food delivery apps. Slice is now processing more than $100 million in orders, and, with a recent $15 million in venture funding, expects to process more than $200 million worth next year.
