Site to analyze news has ‘fake news’ hotline

(THE HILL) — An upcoming media service aimed at analyzing news will have a hotline for members of the public and political candidates to flag what they consider fake news seen on the internet.

NewsGuard is set to announce the telephone hotline, as well as an encrypted digital hotline, which can be resources for people to flag what they believe to be fake news.

“We’ve already seen one case of a candidate citing an endorsement from a bogus site that was created by supporters of that candidate. This is a particularly insidious variety of fake news because it is aimed directly at unsuspecting voters,” the company’s co-CEO Steven Brill told Axios.
