History of Pennsylvania
Although many people don’t know this, Pennsylvania actual began in 1681 by the revered William Penn. This happened when he received a royal charter from the king of England – King Charles II. However, there was activity and development in the area prior to this.. it just wasn’t famous yet. Pennsylvania became colonized by Swedish and Dutch settlers in the 17th century, and water later taken over in 1667. The chief city Philadelphia was actually the first ‘planned’ city – and was controlled by the Quakers. Eventually, in the 18th century many German and Scottish came to the area.
Philadelphia served as the nation’s capital for a portion of the 18th century and continued into the 20th century. Surpringly in todays statistics, Pennsylvania was the second most popular state
