London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan says he does not think the British capital should “roll out the red carpet” for President Donald Trump for his 2018 visit.
In an interview with CNN, Khan said “state visits are different from a normal visit.”
“And at a time when the president of the USA has policies that many in our country disagree with, I am not sure it is appropriate for our government to roll out the red carpet,” he said.
The planned visit – announced by U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May at the G-20 summit, CNN reported – was delayed until next year amid concerns it will trigger protests.
Khan, the first Muslim mayor of a western capital city, is not ruling out a meeting with Trump, CNN reported.
