The cricket authorities in India, BCCI, said the decision was made “keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind”.

Sky Sport Commentator Nick Knight said the nation was ‘allowed to be a little bit distracted’ from the crisis engulfing the country on a evening.

The suspension of the league comes after two games were called off this week following positive tests within the clubs and with just over half of the 60 matches planned.
