The answer is a simple one: most pain and tension in your head is related to the muscles that surround the area. When your muscles are misaligned, you can experience more pain.

Although a migraine is severe to moderate pain that you feel at the top or side of your head, the trouble may actually start at the bottom of your skull.

Your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the hinge that connects your jaw to your skull. Your TMJ allows you to talk, chew and yawn.

Temporomandibular joint disorder is the second most common cause of chronic pain. It makes it hard, sometimes even impossible, to eat and talk, and often causes headaches.

When your TMJ is mistaken for a headache, you’ll keep trying to treat a headache. You may get temporary relief, but your pain will return because the real source of the problem isn’t addressed.
