FDNY firefighter’s daughter reflects on father’s battle with cancer after working at Ground Zero

“I think my father was well aware that it was caused by being downtown at Ground Zero in the pit and the pile.”

Bridget Gormley recounts the lasting health effects the toxic smoke, dust and debris from the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks had on her father.

Gormley’s father, an FDNY firefighter, worked at Ground Zero and passed away from bladder cancer in June 2017 after it spread to his lungs.
