A portrait made by an algorithm just sold for $432,500 in an auction at Christie’s. The portrait is called, “Portrait d’Edmond Belamy,” and it looks like a blurry image of a man dressed in black. It looked like it wasn’t finished, like it was just the sketch that an artist might start with. It comes in a golden frame. And instead of a signature in the corner, there’s a mathematical formula.
