Wash. state AG claims 18-year-old can buy AR-15 at Cabela’s in ‘minutes’ with no background check

On Friday, the office of Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson claimed on Twitter that an 18-year-old can purchase an AR-15 from Cabela’s with no “enhanced” background check and no waiting period, Twitchy reported.  Naturally, the tweet sparked a great deal of criticism.

“Fact: In Washington, an 18-year-old can walk into a Cabela’s and walk out minutes later with an AR-15. No enhanced background check, no waiting period,” the tweet said, referencing SB 5444, a measure the Firearms Policy Coalition said would “create a registry of so called ‘assault weapons’ and their owners, requires extended wait times on ‘assault weapons’, and define ‘Assault Weapon’ as many commonly-used and purchased semi-automatic firearms.”
