Eclipse Tricks Nashville Giraffes Into Twilight Playtime Activity

The giraffes at the Nashville Zoo went wild Monday during the total solar eclipse, reportedly fooled into thinking day was done – and it was time to play.

Steven Foust, a docent at the zoo, said he assumed the darkness would prompt the giraffes to head back to their pens — forgetting they like to play at twilight, WKRN.com reported.

“They started to play, they started to run around, there was a lot of activity going on, but at the same time, they weren’t alone,” he told the news outlet. “There was the crowd, people ‘oohing’ and ‘ahhing’ and cheering and clapping, and they caught up in it — we all got caught up in it . . .”

Another video showed flamingos at the zoo huddling together during the darkness.
